These 1-Hour Soft and Buttery Dinner Rolls are delightfully fluffy and tender with a rich buttery flavor. Perfect for family dinners or special occasions, these easy-to-make rolls come together quickly using simple ingredients and only an hour of rising and baking time.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt

For Finishing

  • Extra melted butter, for brushing

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside to be ready for the rolls.
  2. Heat Liquids: In a microwave-safe bowl or saucepan, combine water, melted butter, milk, and honey. Warm the mixture to about 110°F, warm but not hot, using 15-second intervals in the microwave or gently heating on medium-low on the stove, stirring occasionally.
  3. Activate Yeast: Pour the warm liquid mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer. Sprinkle yeast evenly over the surface and stir lightly with a fork. Allow the yeast to activate for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Add 3 ½ cups of all-purpose flour and the fine sea salt to the yeast mixture.
  5. Mix and Knead Dough: Using the dough hook attachment, mix on medium-low speed until the ingredients combine. If the dough sticks to the sides, gradually add more flour by ¼ cup increments, up to 4 cups total, until the dough pulls away from the bowl and feels slightly sticky. Continue mixing for 4-5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball and transfer it to a greased bowl.
  6. First Rise: Cover the bowl with a damp towel or paper towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 15 minutes to begin the fermentation process.
  7. Shape Rolls: Gently punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide the dough into 15 equal pieces and shape each piece into a smooth ball. Place the dough balls evenly spaced in the prepared baking dish. Cover again and let them rise for another 15-20 minutes until puffed.
  8. Bake: Remove the cover from the baking dish and bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden and the rolls are fully cooked through.
  9. Brush with Butter: Once out of the oven, transfer the baking dish to a wire rack and brush the warm rolls generously with melted butter to enhance flavor and softness.
  10. Serve: Serve the rolls warm alongside your favorite meal and enjoy their soft, buttery goodness.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can knead the dough by hand for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Make sure your liquid mixture is not too hot or it could kill the yeast; it should feel warm to the touch.
  • You can store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle some sesame or poppy seeds on top of the rolls before baking.
