Ingredients
Scale
Brownies
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Coffee Frosting
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven & prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8-inch baking dish by coating it with non-stick spray or lining it with parchment paper, then lightly spray the parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Melt butter: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl using the microwave until fully melted. Transfer the melted butter to a large mixing bowl.
- Mix wet ingredients: Add granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the melted butter. Stir thoroughly until well combined and the mixture is smooth.
- Add dry ingredients: Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder into the wet ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and fully combined without lumps.
- Bake brownies: Pour the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool brownies: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the baking dish before frosting.
- Prepare coffee cream: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, and set aside.
- Make frosting base: In a separate bowl, beat the unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until fully combined and smooth.
- Add coffee cream: Slowly pour the coffee-infused cream into the frosting mixture and mix well. If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream 1 tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
- Frost brownies: Spread the prepared coffee frosting generously over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and serve to enjoy.
Notes
- Ensure the brownies are fully cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
- You can adjust the coffee flavor intensity by varying the amount of coffee extract or instant coffee used.
- Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- For a stronger coffee flavor, use brewed espresso in place of coffee extract.
- Use parchment paper for easier removal of brownies from the baking dish.
