Frosted Coffee Brownies are rich, moist chocolate brownies infused with a hint of coffee flavor and topped with a smooth, creamy coffee frosting. This delicious treat combines the indulgent taste of chocolate with the bold aroma of coffee, making it a perfect dessert for coffee lovers and chocolate enthusiasts alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownies

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Coffee Frosting

  • 24 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven & prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8-inch baking dish by coating it with non-stick spray or lining it with parchment paper, then lightly spray the parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt butter: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl using the microwave until fully melted. Transfer the melted butter to a large mixing bowl.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: Add granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the melted butter. Stir thoroughly until well combined and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add dry ingredients: Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder into the wet ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and fully combined without lumps.
  5. Bake brownies: Pour the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool brownies: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the baking dish before frosting.
  7. Prepare coffee cream: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, and set aside.
  8. Make frosting base: In a separate bowl, beat the unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until fully combined and smooth.
  9. Add coffee cream: Slowly pour the coffee-infused cream into the frosting mixture and mix well. If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream 1 tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  10. Frost brownies: Spread the prepared coffee frosting generously over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and serve to enjoy.

Notes

  • Ensure the brownies are fully cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • You can adjust the coffee flavor intensity by varying the amount of coffee extract or instant coffee used.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • For a stronger coffee flavor, use brewed espresso in place of coffee extract.
  • Use parchment paper for easier removal of brownies from the baking dish.
