Ingredients
Scale
Brownies
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon coffee extract or 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Coffee Frosting
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of brownies.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: Melt the unsalted butter in the microwave and transfer it into a large mixing bowl. Add granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract, stirring until the mixture is fully blended and smooth.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and coffee extract or instant coffee granules.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring carefully until the batter is smooth, evenly mixed, and without lumps.
- Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before frosting.
- Prepare Coffee Frosting: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in the heavy whipping cream. In a separate bowl, beat unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then slowly pour in the coffee-infused cream, mixing continuously until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
- Frost the Brownies: Spread the coffee frosting generously over the cooled brownies using an offset spatula or knife for even coverage. Slice into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a stronger coffee flavor, substitute instant coffee with espresso powder in both the batter and frosting.
- Adjust the amount of heavy cream in the frosting to achieve your preferred consistency, starting with 2 tablespoons and adding more if needed.
- Optional: Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the brownie batter before baking for added texture.
- Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
- To freeze, wrap individual brownies tightly and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
