Grilled Cheese Burrito Recipe

  • Author: Marina
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 burritos 1x

Description

This Grilled Cheese Burrito recipe combines seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar and mozzarella cheese, and flavorful sauces wrapped in a warm flour tortilla and grilled to perfection with a crispy cheesy crust. It’s a fusion-style comfort food that blends the hearty flavors of a burrito with the satisfying gooey texture of grilled cheese.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade blend)
  • 1/4 cup water

Other Fillings

  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup nacho cheese sauce
  • 1/4 cup chipotle sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Wrap and Cooking

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • Butter or oil for grilling (optional, as per preference)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease, then add the taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water. Simmer for 5 minutes until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.
  2. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas on a dry skillet or briefly in the microwave until soft and flexible, making it easier to assemble and fold the burritos.
  3. Assemble the Burrito: Lay a warm tortilla flat. Spread a layer of cooked white rice, then add the seasoned ground beef. Drizzle with nacho cheese sauce and chipotle sauce evenly over the beef, then add dollops of sour cream. Top all with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
  4. Grill the Burrito: Preheat a clean skillet over medium heat and sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese onto the pan. Place the assembled burrito seam-side down onto the cheese. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the cheese melts and creates a crispy crust. Carefully flip the burrito and repeat on the other side to achieve a golden, cheesy exterior.

Notes

  • Use warmed tortillas for easier folding and to prevent tearing.
  • Drain excess fat from the cooked beef to avoid a soggy burrito.
  • Adjust the amount of chipotle sauce to control the spice level.
  • For extra crispiness, lightly butter the tortilla before grilling if desired.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor of the crispy grilled cheese crust.
