Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.25 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup milk, warmed
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
Cream Filling Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 0.5 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt thoroughly to prepare the base of the dough.
- Activate Yeast: In a separate bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warmed milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the warm milk and yeast mixture, beaten egg, and melted butter into the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for approximately 8–10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and allow it to rise at room temperature for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Shape Donuts: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about ½ inch thick on a floured surface. Use a donut cutter or two round cutters to cut out donut shapes.
- Second Rise: Place the cut donuts on a lined baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place.
- Prepare Cream Filling: In a medium bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form, creating a smooth and sweet cream filling.
- Fry Donuts: Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Carefully lower the risen donuts into the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Fill Donuts: Once the donuts have cooled sufficiently, use a piping bag to inject the whipped milk cream filling into each donut.
- Finish and Serve: Dust the filled donuts with powdered sugar and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, when activating yeast to avoid killing the yeast.
- Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to maintain oil temperature and even cooking.
- If you don’t have a donut cutter, two round cutters of different sizes can be used to create the donut shape.
- These donuts are best enjoyed fresh on the day they are made.
- Adjust sugar in the cream filling to taste if a less sweet flavor is preferred.
