Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Prepare the dough: To the yeast mixture, add melted butter, egg, salt, and blue food coloring. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms that is slightly sticky but manageable.
- Knead the dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until it becomes smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky.
- First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Roll the dough: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle approximately ¼ inch thick on a lightly floured surface.
- Add filling: Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the brown sugar and ground cinnamon mixture generously on top.
