  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Delicious Strawberry Stuffed French Toast featuring creamy sweetened cream cheese and fresh strawberries stuffed inside thick slices of bread, dipped in a cinnamon-vanilla custard, and pan-fried to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Strawberry Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (half of the 2 cups)

For the French Toast

  • 8 slices thick bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (remaining)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter for cooking

For Serving

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (remaining half)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cream Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with 1 tablespoon of sugar until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in half of the sliced strawberries and set aside.
  2. Create Bread Pockets: Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a horizontal pocket through the middle of each slice of bread without cutting all the way through. Stuff each pocket generously with the cream cheese and strawberry mixture, pressing lightly to seal.
  3. Make Custard Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined and smooth with no visible egg whites.
  4. Cook French Toast: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter. Dip each stuffed bread slice into the custard mixture, coating both sides thoroughly but do not soak too long to avoid sogginess. Place slices on skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy, carefully flipping to keep filling inside.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Transfer cooked French toast to plates, dust with powdered sugar, top with remaining fresh strawberries, and drizzle with warm maple syrup. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

  • Use thick slices of bread like brioche or Texas toast to hold the filling well.
  • Make sure cream cheese is softened for easy mixing.
  • Do not soak bread too long in custard to prevent falling apart.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of orange zest to the cream cheese filling.
  • Serve with extra fresh fruit or whipped cream if desired.
