Hawaiian Roll Grilled Cheese Recipe

  • Author: Marina
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 12 sliders 1x

Description

These Hawaiian Roll Grilled Cheese sliders combine soft, slightly sweet Hawaiian rolls with melty cheese, optional savory ham or turkey, and a touch of Dijon mustard for tang. Baked to golden perfection and finished with a quick broil, these sliders offer a deliciously gooey, crispy bite perfect for parties, snacks, or an easy meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Rolls and Butter

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls, split horizontally
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened (plus extra melted for brushing)

Cheese and Deli

  • 810 slices American cheese or cheddar
  • 812 slices ham or turkey, optional

Condiments and Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or honey mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Fresh chives or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Rolls: Split the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the tops and bottoms intact as a whole piece. Brush the cut sides of the rolls with melted butter, then sprinkle garlic powder on the outside if using, to add a subtle savory flavor.
  3. Assemble Sliders: Lay the bottom halves on the prepared baking sheet. Layer the cheese slices evenly across the bottom halves. If using, add slices of ham or turkey evenly on top of the cheese. Spread a thin, even layer of Dijon or honey mustard on the inside of the top halves of the rolls to add a tangy contrast to the savory ingredients.
  4. Close and Butter: Place the top halves of the rolls back onto the assembled bottoms, pressing gently to compress slightly. Brush the tops of the rolls with more softened or melted butter to help create a golden, crispy exterior.
  5. Bake: Bake the assembled sliders in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the tops of the rolls start to turn golden brown.
  6. Broil for Crispiness: For an extra crispy top, switch your oven to broil and place the sliders under the broiler for 1–2 minutes. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the sliders to rest for 2 minutes to set slightly. Slice into individual sliders and garnish with freshly chopped chives or parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute the cheese with dairy-free slices for a vegan option.
  • Adding ham or turkey is optional but adds a savory flavor layer.
  • Watch closely during broiling to avoid burning the tops.
  • These sliders are best served warm for gooey cheese and buttery rolls.
  • Use parchment paper or a silicone mat on the baking sheet for easier cleanup.
